For music fans who love the musical stylings of the 70’s through the early 80’s, you’ve found the artist for you. Often described as a cross between Kiss and UFO, on the rock/hard rock side and Al Stewart and David Gates meets Ambrosia on the soft-rock side, multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, producer, mix engineer and musicpreneuer, Allen has performed live for audiences of up to 15,000+ people and has played at most of the big stages along LA’s sunset strip including The Starwood, Gazzarri’s, Whiskey A Go-Go, The Roxy and Madame Wong’s just to name a few. Allen has three albums under his belt, that include the self-titled “6.1.4”, which is a compilation of rock and hard-rock songs and two albums “Reach for the Sky” and “Imagination”, under the name of Frankly Allen, which is a combination of rock and soft-rock ballads.

Allen has been playing music for 40+ years and writing music for 20+ of those years. Allen tries to write music that is meaningful to him and hopes it transcends to other listeners as well. Allen's goal is to write music that makes people happy or gives them pause to think about what’s currently going on in their lives and the world around them. Allen writes lyrics that are passionate and edgy with social and political themes, and his music has been described by others as “a mixture of high impact rock and tasteful adult contemporary soft-rock ballads with an edge”. Allen just enjoys being able to express himself through music, "I write because I love it and I can’t imagine doing anything else”.

Allen, a veteran of the Los Angeles music scene and industry, is as captivating as it comes. His writing style and songs yearn for so much…Allen provides a sonic journey that blends adult contemporary rock with spellbinding piano beds…It’s full of color, light and drama - Allen maintains this high integrity in all the songs. Inspiring lyrics seem to be his calling card …you can tell that he’s a prolific writer just based on his song structure. Fans of the soft rock 70s era and even some of the mid 80s pop rock songs will applaud these moving tracks.” - Mindy McCall

Allen’s Journey

“The beauty of music is that it touches every aspect of a person’s life.”

Allen believes that music is the sunlight to the soul and is the only dialect that is understood universally by every person, regardless of age, culture or religion. It helps us fall in love and supports us when we are out of love. It brings back memories and guides us towards our future.  Allen’s goal is to write music that will resonate with you, his audience.

A self-taught musician Allen writes, composes and performs his own original music. Allen grew up playing the local Los Angeles music scene throughout the 80’s performing mostly originals as the lead guitarist and main songwriter with the Heavy Rock outfit ‘Zeus’, and the Progressive Rock band ‘Bishop’. Allen eventually found himself caught up in the whole music scene becoming addicted to alcohol and drugs, which was plentiful throughout the 70’s and 80’s and ended up on the streets for a decade. Dying of Cirrhosis of the liver Allen was faced with the choice to either end his life this way or getting sober. Allen chose sobriety and now has 30+ years.

Now back in the music scene in the early 90’s, Allen joined forces with the politically charged folk-rock band ‘Steel Promise’ as the lead guitarist and co-writer, later moving on as a solo artist collaborating with other gifted musicians. Following the deaths of two of his friends and collaborators, later that decade, he was devastated and the spirit of the music within him died.  Allen stopped playing music altogether for the next 13 years, but as the time passed it became evident to him that something was missing in his life. He felt like a fish out of water and that he no longer had a purpose.

Allen now resides in Vancouver, British Columbia. Shortly after moving there, he began to meet many of the local musicians in the area and one of them suggested that “if in fact music was his true passion maybe he needed to return to it”. So, Allen began to write again, preforming, recording and producing all the music himself with the vocal help from some of the local Vancouver musicians. Allen soon found that he had not lost the touch and in fact the new songs were sounding really good.

Today, Allen’s music continues to be his own distinct style.  He does not try to emulate what is currently popular or trendy.  He writes music that is meaningful to him and hopes it transcends to other listeners as well.
